A Chicago man was far from home when he was apprehended in connection with a bank robbery. When one unidentified customer realized that a teller had been handed a “demand note” at a Wells Fargo branch in Marietta, Ga., he stepped out, retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and ordered the robbery suspect to lie on the ground until police arrived. Records show the 25-year-old suspect was arrested, charged with robbery by intimidation and remanded to the custody of the Cobb County jail. (AJC.com, Marietta, GA, 3/26/15)

An employee of a Boulder, Colo., church was able to use his concealed handgun to save the life of a woman being attacked by her estranged husband. Highly intoxicated, the 47-year-old suspect confronted his wife in the church parking lot, grabbed her by the neck and threatened to slit her throat. While walking to his car, the church employee witnessed the confrontation and intervened. Presenting his gun, the Good Samaritan told the attacker to leave her alone. The suspect then fled the scene, however, he was apprehended nearby by responding police. He now faces charges for suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and felony menacing. (The Denver Post, Denver, CO, 8/2/15)

April 1966
Asleep in a room at the rear of his Kansas City, Kan. television repair shop, Charles Riley was awakened by the sounds of scuffling. He went into the store in time to see a shotgun-armed intruder hit his wife in the head with the shotgun barrel. As the would-be bandit swung the gun towards him, Riley grabbed the gun barrel. Mrs. Riley got a pistol from the shelf and fired, killing the robber. It was later learned that the dead bandit had a long police record. (Kansas City Star, Kansas City, MO)
