When it came to choosing between her children and her boyfriend, the blood ties ruled supreme in a case in South Fulton, Ga. A mother of five had recently ditched her lover. He apparently didn’t take the rejection well, coming to her house the day after the break-up and kicking in her door. At the sound of the first thud against the door, the woman called 911 and armed herself. After her ex successfully dismantled the door, she warned him that she would shoot if he didn’t turn around and leave. He ignored her and ended up with a bullet in the chest. The armed mother will not be charged, South Fulton police said. (wsbtv.com, Atlanta, Ga., 7/19/18)

A New Haven man attempting to get into the Halloween spirit early had an odd way of showing it. He reportedly approached a 27-year old man, wished him "Happy Halloween," then proceeded to stab the victim in the elbow. The victim's 24-year-old cousin, who had been waiting in a nearby car for him, reportedly tried to stop the altercation, but was stabbed in the bicep instead. At this point, the 24-year old pulled his pistol and fatally shot the assailant in the chest. (New Haven Register, New Haven, CT, 10/11/2018)

The Denver Post has named service station manager Dave Vigil of Denver to its “Gallery of Fame”for stopping a robbery at his station. A man pulled a gun on Vigil and took $156. As he was leaving, Vigil took a .22 revolver from a drawer, stopped the robber, disarmed him, and held him for police. (Denver, Colo., Post)
