Convenience stores might not really be a convenient target for robbers—at least not one in Florida. A Deerfield Beach store’s employees shot and killed an armed robber, and the store owner offered no apologies for keeping six guns throughout the store to protect against criminals. “When you carry cash, everyone can be your enemy,” said the man who owns a Snappy’s store. Police reports indicate that the store owner’s nephew and another employee were in the store working when a masked man came up to the counter. The nephew didn’t even have time to try to comply with the gunman’s demands before the bad guy started shooting. Both employees ended up grabbing guns and returning fire. The police arrived and the masked gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. (Sun Sentinel, Broward County, FL, 1/17/16)

A man and a woman bit off more than they could chew when they tried to rob a man retrieving money from an ATM in Fresno, Calif. The male brigand approached their target while the female waited in a running vehicle. The robber then shocked the victim twice with a stun gun while demanding money. When their mark, a retired sheriff’s deputy with a concealed carry permit, started retrieving his handgun, the female criminal rammed the victim’s car in an attempt to strike him. In response, the former deputy fired four times into the vehicle, striking the driver once and causing her to drive into a planter. The male robber fled the scene on foot and is being sought by the authorities; the female was arrested and taken to a local hospital. (Fresno Bee, Fresno, CA, 1/8/16)
