Armed Citizen® Today

Police responded to a call from a Battle Creek, Mich., apartment complex on the night of Wednesday, March 8, to find a 40-year-old alleged intruder who had been shot inside one of the complex's units.

Just after 9:30 p.m., the accused man had apparently forced his way into one of the apartments and confronted an armed resident, who opened fire, subduing the burglar. When police arrived, the suspect was wounded but still alive, and he was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

"At this time, it appears that the victim acted in self-defense," police said in a statement. (Battle Creek Enquirer, Battle Creek, Mich., 3/8/23)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – June 1961

A 16-year-old boy entered Joseph LaCour’s St. Louis, Mo., drugstore and asked to see some watches. As LaCour turned, the youth pulled a .32-cal. revolver and said, “This is a holdup.” LaCour dropped to the floor, took his own pistol, shot the lad in the hand, and held him for police. The young holdup man then admitted participating in six other robberies. (St. Louis Globe-Democrat, St. Louis, Mo.)
