A Ville Platte, La., woman defended herself when her ex-boyfriend allegedly broke into her residence and assaulted her on Jan. 26, 2022.

The incident started sometime that early Wednesday morning when the ex-boyfriend, whom the woman had a restraining order against, showed up to the woman's house, and gained entry by kicking in the front door. He then went the the woman's bedroom and attempted to take her clothes off without consent and assault her. Alerted by the commotion, the woman's child ventured into the room to investigate.

The assailing ex-boyfriend stopped his advance on the woman to take the child into another room, before coming back to continue his assault. However, the woman had armed herself with a small pistol as her attacker approached. She fired once, striking him in the leg. The assailant then tried to disarm the woman, and a tussle ensued. turning the struggle, the woman shot the aggressing ex-boyfriend in the other leg before he took the pistol from her. He then fled the house, and drove himself to a local medical center for treatment.

Later that morning, the woman went to the police and reported what happened. Authorities took the ex-boyfriend into custody after he war released from the hospital, and charged him with home invasion, false imprisonment, violation of protective orders, attempted second degree rape, criminal damage to property, battery of a dating parter and child endangerment as well as the theft of a firearm.
