An armed bystander in Carmichael, Calif., sprang into action when a deranged man, who had run over people with his truck, began attacking others in public with a crowbar and handgun on June 21, 2021.

It all began around 9 a.m. that Monday morning when a black pickup truck began driving erratically on the road, swerving onto the curb and sidewalks. The truck then hit a pedestrian outside a shopping center, killing them. When another pedestrian ran up to the first to check on them, the truck circled back and ran them over, too. After this, the truck then fled the scene and rear ended another vehicle in the process, pushing it 100 yards down the road.

The man in the truck then got out with a crowbar in hand, and began beating the vehicle and its occupant. The occupant was able to escape the vehicle and the man however. After this, the deranged man pulled a handgun out an approached a trailer in the parking lot of the Carmichael Elks Lodge. A man exited the trailer and got into a scuffle with the armed intruder, during which a shot was fired and the man wounded. Another person inside the trailer came out and responded to the armed lunatic with a shot to the upper body, ending the situation.

In all, one died and two were hospitalized after the truck driver's rampage. He survived the shot from the armed bystander, and was taken to the hospital afterward.(sacbee.com, Sacramento, Calif., 06/21/2021)

Mary Stark awoke to the sound of breaking glass in her Visalia, Calif., home. Armed with a handgun, she walked into the living room where she found a man crouched under a table, holding her purse. The 79-year-old woman ordered the intruder out of her house and then called police. The authorities arrived to find the intruder hiding in Stark's car. The woman's purse was recovered, and the suspect was arrested. (The Times-Delta, Visalia, Calif.)
