Armed Citizen® Today

Two men were cleared of wrongdoing in a self-defense situation when police discovered that the alleged victim in the encounter was actually the assailant.

At about 1:30 p.m. on May 11, San Antonio police officers responded to calls of a shooting at an intersection. There, they discovered a 55-year-old man who had allegedly been shot at by two individuals. After finding spent shell casings and following the positive identification provided by the alleged victim, officers arrested a 26-year-old man and another individual nearby, and the 55-year-old man was released.

During the subsequent investigation, new evidence uncovered that the older man had attacked the younger man with a crowbar, causing the armed 26-year-old to defend himself. Both men were subsequently released, and the investigation is ongoing. (News4SA; San Antonio, Texas; 5/12/24)

Two armed men entered Gerald Wetherell's Flint, Mich., market and one announced, "This is a stick-up." They forced Wetherell, an employee and a customer into a meat cooler, then returned with another customer. Wetherell took a gun from his belt and shot both robbers. (Flint Journal, Flint, Mich.)
