The owner of the Dairy Phil restaurant in Clare, Mich., was forced to defend himself when an alleged robber broke into his home on May 5, 2022.

The home, connected directly to the restaurant, was targeted by an intruder around 6 a.m. that Thursday morning. Alerted to the intrusion by noise, the owner was awakened and dialed 911. Police quickly arrived on the scene, arriving at the address in just two minutes. Meanwhile, the owner armed himself with a registered firearm, and stayed put in his home.

As police arrived at the home and were making their way inside, the intruder had just walked up on the owner. The owner fired on the intruder, with police close enough to witness the shots. Struck by the owner's fire, the intruder was mortally wounded. Neither the owner, nor the two officers inside the home as well at the time were injured during the incident.
