A Chicago Lawn resident in Chicago, Ill., defended himself when he was confronted by an armed thug on Dec. 3, 2021.

The 37-year-old resident was in an alleyway around 7 a.m. that Friday morning, when he got into a verbal altercation with a man in a vehicle that had pulled down the alleyway. As the dispute continued, the man in the vehicle produced a pistol. In response to the sudden threat, the resident, who had a valid FOID and Illinois concealed-carry license, drew his own concealed handgun.

The resident then opened fire at the armed crook, striking him while he was still in the vehicle. The offender was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities arrived, and the resident was uninjured during the incident. Due to the nature of the incident and the fact that he had a valid CCL, the resident was not charged. (chicagojurnal.com, Chicago, Ill., 12/03/2021)

Jerome Lovett heard scratching noises at the back of his Wilton Manors, Fla., home and then saw a dark shape lurch into his bedroom. The marine engineer reached for his handgun just as the intruder landed at him. Lovett fired, wounding the man. The suspect, charged with burglary, has just been released from jail on bond in connection with another burglary. Lovett was not charged. (The Herald, Miami, Fla.)
