A home-invasion suspect in Florida is dead after being met by a homeowner's adult son, who was armed and able to defend his family's property.

Police were called to reports of a burglary just after midnight on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2024. When they arrived, they found an unidentified suspect who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was deceased. The homeowner's son had confronted the intruder and fired to stop the threat, resulting in the suspect's death.

"Imagine the fear of being awoken in the middle of the night to a stranger invading your home," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister told the Tampa Free Press. "This is every homeowner's greatest fear, a dangerous and brazen individual breaking in, showing a complete disregard for the safety and security of others. Our thoughts are with this family as they recover from the trauma of this event." (Tampa Free Press; Ruskin, Fla.; 11/10/24)

Hearing a commotion in back of his apartment, a St. Louis homeowner directed his wife to call police while he investigated with a gun. As he walked to a door, it burst open, and an armed intruder rushed toward him. Though warned, the intruder would not stop and was killed by a single shot. Police said the burglar had multiple felony convictions. (The Post Dispatch; St. Louis, Mo.)
