An accused burglar was shot and killed at a home in Iberia Parish, La., on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, after he broke into the residence, according to a report from the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the 35-year-old deceased suspect and two other individuals allegedly forced their way into the house, where they encountered an armed homeowner. The home invader was also armed and began firing at the homeowner, who returned fire, fatally striking the suspect. The two other suspects fled the home and are currently wanted by police. Betty Ross of Boise, Idaho, was dozing in a living room chair when her dog awakened her at about 2 a.m. She saw an intruder enter the house through a back door and start toward a bedroom. Ross slipped into the room through a side door and picked up a rifle.

Switching on the lights, she met the man face-to-face and ordered him out. The man fled, but a suspect was arrested minutes later. (
