An alleged home intruder is in the hospital after attempting to break into an older woman's home in Broward County, Fla., being shot by the woman as soon as he entered the house.

Just after midnight on Nov. 13, 2023, a neighbor who was outside smoking a cigarette saw the alleged intruder coming down the road, "looking behind him like somebody's after him," and then approached the woman's home. The suspect allegedly tried the front door to the home, which was locked, and then approached a nearby window, pulled down a window screen, broke the glass and crawled through the window. Then the neighbor heard a gunshot as the resident confronted the intruder.

"Glad she did, older woman this day and age," the neighbor told a local reporter. "Gotta have some type of protection."

The suspect was arrested after police arrived on scene and was taken to the hospital. Local witnesses said that his wounds did not appear life-threatening, as he was standing outside the house, handcuffed, before paramedics arrived. (NBC 6 South Florida; Pompano Beach, Fla.; 11/13/23)
