A home invasion in Berkeley County, W.Va., on September 9 ended with the intruder's death after he encountered an armed property owner who had been alerted by motion sensors, according to local reports.
Deputies were called to the home at 3:46 a.m. by the man who fired the shots, stating that he had found an intruder in the garage of his mother's vacant home. Six deputies arrived on scene and found the 38-year-old suspect on the garage floor, face down. Officers performed life-saving measures, but the home invader was pronounced dead soon after.
The property owner's son told investigators that he had reported a break-in at the vacant house earlier in August. Shortly thereafter, he installed motion sensors at the house, and the sensors alerted him to activity at the home early that morning. When he arrived to investigate, he found the suspect inside the garage. The intruder allegedly turned toward the man with an object in his hand, causing the man to open fire.
