A homeowner in Green Bay, Wis., stood his ground when an intruder broke into his home in the early morning hours of Aug. 5, 2021.

It started sometime before 4:00 a.m. that Thursday morning when the would-be home invader first targeted a home and attempted to kick in the front door. However, he was not able to force his way into that home and moved on to another. He went around the corner and targeted a duplex, breaking in through the back door. Once inside, the intruder encounterered the homeowner, who was armed with a handgun.

A confrontation ensued, during which the intruder became aggressive and approached the homeowner. The intruder then tried to grab the handgun from the homeowner. During the tussle, the homeowner managed to shoot the intruder. When the homeowner called police afterwards, the were already close by responding to a call from the first break-in attempt. The intruder was taken to a local medical center with non-life-threatening injuries and is facing charges. (wearegreenbay.com, Green Bay, Wis., 03/16/2021)

When Richard Vallejos awakened to the sounds of a window being broken in his Tucson, Ariz., home, he secured a pistol and lay on the floor next to his bed. An intruder made his way through the house into the bedroom and. upon spotting the homeowner, pulled a gun from his belt. Vallejos fired first, striking the prowler in the arm and chest. The man died shortly thereafter at a nearby hospital. (The Citizen, Tucson, Ariz.)
