One man is dead and two others are on the run after the robbery they were attempting to commit went very poorly for them. The three thieves entered a Fort Worth, Texas, grocery store and demanded money from the owner. Initially complying with the robbers, when the storeowner noticed that one of the criminals was armed with a shotgun, he produced his own handgun and shot the brigand. The wounded man’s two accomplices then fled the scene on foot and are still being sought by the authorities. The injured gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the police, the storeowner was shaken up but wasn’t injured during the incident. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fort Worth, TX, 6/18/15)

January 1980
Dale Green, a Southern Pacific railroad employee, was working near Picacho Peak, Ariz., when he noticed two unmanned locomotives, coupled back-to-back, rolling down the tracks. Green grabbed his shotgun and, along with his fellow coworkers, jumped into a car and gave chase. After 20 miles, the driver pulled alongside the then-speeding engines. Green fired several blasts at an air-brake hose and pierced it, causing the air brakes to activate and the $1million locomotives to grind to a safe halt. (The Republic, Phoenix, AZ)
