A Charleston, W.V., woman took action when the party she was attending at an apartment complex came under fire on May 25, 2022.

At some point that Wednesday night prior to the incident, a man was approached by resident of the apartment complex and asked not to speed in the complex when children were playing outside. The man left the complex, only to return sometime after 10 p.m. Once he parked his car in front of the apartments, where a high school graduation party was being held, the man got out with an AR-style rifle, took aim and opened fire on the party attendees.

As the man opened fire onto the crowd, a woman at the party just so happened to be carrying her own firearm. Reacting quickly to the threat, the woman drew her pistol and opened fire on the assailant, striking him several times and subduing him. When police arrived, they found the assailant deceased from multiple wounds inflicted by the armed citizen. Police gave her full credit in acting fast and protecting her fellow party attendees, saying: "Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night." Alerted by the sound of his front door being kicked in, Lexington, Ky., resident Bernard McCarthy armed himself. When a knife-wielding burglar burst into McCarthy's residence, the homeowner warned he would shoot. As the man continued to threaten him with a knife, McCarthy fired, wounding him. Charges of first-degree burglary were placed against the man. (The Herald-Leader, Lexington, Ky.)

Review: Steiner Predator: 4S 4-16X 44 mm

The benefit of a lightweight rifle is lost the moment you top it with a clunky, overweight optic, particularly a lengthy one. To that end, we are starting to see an emphasis on riflescopes that are less cumbersome when mounted, such as Steiner’s Predator 4S.
