Robert Jones, 77, heard the glass shatter when a man threw a chair through a picture window in Jones' home just before 2 a.m. Jones retrieved a firearm he kept in his home and confronted the man. Jones warned the intruder that he had a gun and that he would shoot, but the suspect reportedly continued toward him. Jones then fired a single shot into the intruder's torso. Jones called 911 and police arrived shortly thereafter. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound and it was determined that he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the break-in. He now faces multiple charges including a felony charge of burglary. (Missoulian, Missoula, Mont., 9/24/13)

A homeowner called police around 6 a.m. when he realized a prowler had made his way onto the roof of his home and was attempting to gain entry through a second floor window. The homeowner detained the suspect at gunpoint for the 10 minutes that it took for the police to arrive. After the potential burglar was arrested and identified, it was revealed that he was already wanted on a felony arrest warrant for a prior theft case. He was also driving a truck that had been reported stolen. (Anchorage Daily News, Soldotna, Alaska, 9/18/13)

From The Armed Citizen® Archives

September 1958: Mrs. Gladys Yesh of Gary, Ind., had been held up five times in her liquor store when she decided to get a gun. She purchased a .32 cal. revolver and then received instructions in its use from the Police Dept. On June 27 as she was about to close her store a man entered, asked for a bottle of whiskey, and instead of paying for it drew a gun and knocked Mrs. Yesh to the floor. Mrs. Yesh drew her gun and fired, killing the robber. (Chicago Tribune, Gary, Ind.)
