Stoeger STR-9MC On The Range

Stoeger Industries has spent several years filling out its affordable STR-9 line of handguns. The latest version, introduced in 2023, is the STR-9MC, a micro-compact model that's sized for concealed-carry use and provides a magazine capacity of 11 rounds in a flush-fit magazine and 13 rounds in an extended box. Watch our American Rifleman "On The Range" video above to see the details of this new personal-defense pistol.

The Stoeger STR-9MC is equipped with a 3.1" barrel and measures just 6.1" long and 4.4" high with a flush-fit magazine installed. Unloaded, the gun weighs only 18.5 ozs. Chambered for 9 mm Luger, the pistol fits squarely within the growing field of micro-compact defensive handguns, nearly all of which are outfitted with stagger-stack magazines that provide heightened capacity, despite their small size and low weight. However, the Stoeger is priced at a point that makes it particularly attractive. Base-model guns retail for $399, a price that includes two magazines, while guns with tritium-illuminated sights and a third magazine retail for $479.

Notable features of the Stoeger STR-9MC include fully adjustable sights across the entire line, as well as a flat-faced trigger with a built-in blade-style safety. The guns are equipped with a single-side magazine release, and two takedown tabs on either side of the frame allow the pistol to be fieldstripped for disassembly like Glock-pattern handguns. The STR9-MC also includes a single-slot Picatinny accessory rail on the frame, as well as a loaded-chamber indicator and slide serrations at the front and rear. A generous trigger-guard undercut allows the pistol to sit low within a shooter's hand, reducing felt recoil and muzzle rise.
