SHOT Show 2018: Walther PPQ SC 9 mm Pistol

Last Fall, at the same shooting event where I worked with the Walther PPQ M2 Q4 TAC 9 mm Pistol, I also got to spend some quality time with the just released PPQ SC 9 mm, the long awaited sub-compact version of the PPQ.

Like most folks, I prefer to use grip enhancements with small semi-automatics, such as extended magazines or magazine baseplates, to give the little finger of the shooting hand a place to rest. However, I shot the PPQ SC quite a bit with the flush-fit 10-round magazine (with my pinky curled under it for support) to see how it would handle. I was impressed by how controllable the pistol was in this configuration when making quick follow-up shots.

The pistol's 3.5" barrel is supported by a dual-spring recoil assembly and housed in a contoured black Tenifer finished slide with front and rear cocking serrations. The polymer 3-Dot sight system is low profile but easy to use. Like it's larger compatriots, this version of the PPQ is fitted with the 5.6-lb. Quick Defense trigger system, interchangeable backstraps, a reversible magazine release and an accessory rail for light and laser modules. A PPQ SC will be arriving soon for additional testing, so stay tuned for the full report. Suggested Retail: $649
