Witness To Neptune’s Inferno

Lloyd M. Mustin has the distinct honor of having served the United States in several roles. Later in life, from 1977-1979, Mustin served as president of the National Rifle Association and was also on the U.S. Olympic committee for shooting sports. Earlier in life, though, Mustin served as lieutenant commander of the light cruiser U.S.S. Atlanta in the Pacific during World War II.

Witness To Neptune’s Inferno by David F. Winkler is a tantalizing window into Mustin’s experiences during the early years of the conflict, with vivid details captured by Mustin’s war diary and his personal recollections of the Battle of Guadalcanal from a naval perspective.
