More than 38,000 volunteers braved the cold weather and consistent rain to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America event at Arlington National Cemetery on Sat. Dec. 14, 2019. Founded in 1864, Arlington National Cemetery was just one of approximately 1,600 sites across the United States where veterans were remembered with a holiday wreath placed on their headstones.

NRA Staff joined those at Arlington to remember those who served not only their country but also the members of the National Rifle Association. Wreaths were placed by staff at the graves of Major General Merritt Austin Edson, Sr. USMC (1897 – 1955) and Brigadier General Joseph Jacob Foss, USMC (1915 – 2003), both of whom served as presidents of the NRA (Edson also served as Executive Vice President). Additionally, both of these distinguished veterans earned the Medal of Honor while fighting the enemy on Guadalcanal in 1943.

Founded in 1992 in Maine, Wreaths Across America marshals tens of thousands of volunteers every year from all over the country to make sure that no veteran is left unremembered during the holiday season.

It's not too early to sponsor a wreath for the next Wreaths Across America day, set for Dec. 19, 2020. To sponsor a wreath. go to the special NRA Wreaths Across America page
