Handgunners on the hunt for a factory-made, competition-grade 9 mm will find that FN offers a  semi-automatic in 9 mm engineered for performance: the 509 LS Edge. Built on the successful Model 509 blueprint, this latest iteration of the polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol features a lengthened slide that is cut for optics; an enhanced, modular frame; redesigned trigger and more.

The FN 509 LS Edge is a full-size 9 mm pistol that uses a similar double-action, striker-fired operating system as other FN 509 guns, though FN improved the striker unit to provide a cleaner and light trigger pull. To keep weight down with the lengthened slide, FN removed material just above the dustcover.

With the gun’s lengthened slide comes a 5” hammer-forged barrel that features a polished chamber and feed ramp in addition to increased sight radius. FN provides dovetailed sights on its 509 LS Edge that are optimized to co-witness with an installed optic; a square-notch rear and green fiber-optic front are standard.

The theme of FN's 509 LS Edge creates an action-target pistol that is fully capable in many different arenas, including personal protection. At the range, the culmination of enhanced features included with the FN 509 LS Edge proved their worth. The improved texturing of the grip was found to be beneficial to fast-action target shooters. The aluminum insert provided at the magazine well makes for snag-free reloading.
