American Tactical’s Turkish-made Nomad line, which was introduced in 2019, proved to be some of the most popular-selling single-shot shotguns in 2020, with good reason. One of them is the bargain-basement price.

The retail prices start at $109 for the six versions with a black-synthetic stock and go up to $169 if you prefer either of the camo-clad pair. These guns can fold in clever fashion for storage and some of the models are also available in a Rukx Gear Survivor Backpacks that is customized for carrying the firearm. It’s a great system for ventures afield. MSRP for that kit comes in at only $209.

The attraction isn’t limited to price, though. Models are available in .410 bore, 20 and 12-ga. All have 3” chambers and an extractor, but no ejector. The Nomad’s external hammer must be cocked for each shot, and the trigger guard rotates to open the action.

Polymer furniture is black on most of them and the buttstock is checkered at the pistol grip for solid purchase during operation. Similar texturing at the fore-end is a nice touch, as well as the pair of sling swivel attachment points. Barrel lengths available include 18.5” and 28” in 12-ga., 18.5” and 26” for the 20-ga. and .410-bore is offered with 18.5” and 26” versions.

The 20- and 12-ga. that wear camo have a slightly different configuration that begins with a receiver-mounted rail for optics. They also ship with fiber-optic sights and 23” vent-ribbed barrels, which are threaded for choke tubes. There are two provided, full and modified, and a saddle mount ensures the spare won’t get lost.

The Nomad line was the third-fastest selling single-shot shotgun in 2020, according to GunBroker.com’s annual compilation from FFLs using its services. Demand for the budget-priced guns is so heavy that, as this was being written, the entire line is listed as out of stock on the company website.
