Editors’ Picks 2017: Silencerco Maxim 9 Pistol

Silencerco has staked out a new segment of the pistol market with its integrally suppressed Maxim 9. The company, best known for separate aftermarket cans—some of which feature its eccentric, below-bore design—has developed the latest version of the 9 mm Luger pistol from scratch, although it wisely borrows the Glock’s proven magazine design. The Maxim 9’s unique delayed-blowback mechanism forgos the conventional recoiling slide concept in favor of a breech block that runs on twin guide rods connected to the fixed barrel’s housing. The safety is of the trigger-blade type. Styling is futuristic with the somewhat bulbous front end housing the suppressor’s baffles. A holster is already available to accommodate the $1,500 pistol in its 37-oz. short configuration at 9.54" overall, or its long-configuration at 2 ozs. more and 1¼" longer.
