NRA Gun of the Week: Ruger 10/22 Takedown Rifle

From the American Rifleman archives: The first of the nearly 300 NRA Gun of the Week videos that now reside on this site rolled out in March 2012, and fittingly, it featured a new variation of the iconic Ruger 10/22, the Takedown model. By 2012, more than 5 million Ruger 10/22s had been produced since its introduction in 1964, making the blowback-operated semi-automatic rimfire rifle one of the world’s most successful commercial firearms. Its unfailing reliability, excellent accuracy, affordability and adaptable design spawned innumerable configurations. The factory takedown version, however, had still been on enthusiasts’ wish list—until 2012. The Takedown model of the rifle, which American Rifleman’s Brian Sheetz later deemed “The World’s Greatest Survival Gun,” has since been introduced in many configurations and special editions. If you are new to the Ruger 10/22—or count yourself among the millions of lifelong fans of this iconic rimfire—check out our very first NRA Gun of the Week video hosted by Brian Sheetz, and read more about this rifle in the links below.
