Armed Citizen® Today

An alleged thief is in the hospital after being wounded by an armed Indianapolis homeowner who felt threatened after finding the intruder on this property, according to local reports.

Just after 5 a.m. on March 5, police responded to reports of a confrontation on the city's east side. According to officers, the suspect was allegedly attempting to steal a generator inside a home when he was confronted by the homeowner. The would-be thief stuck his hand into his pocket, which made the homeowner think the man was going for a weapon. "I shot him in the leg to make him stop," the homeowner told local reporters, adding that he didn't want to shoot the man but felt he had to defend himself.

Just hours after the first break-in, the homeowner caught another suspect attempting to break into his house. The second suspect was detained until police arrived. The homeowner said the city isn't doing enough to address the causes of crime. "You've got too many homeless people and drug addicts in the neighborhood, and no one is offering them treatment," he told reporters. (FOX 59; Indianapolis, Ind.; 3/5/24)
